Dragon Dance Assembly

This week, we had our dragon dance assembly.

It was in connection to our previous unit with the central idea:

Our culture and our origin are expressed in different ways.

Written below is an explanation by Tallis, Sarah, and Ryuki.

"Grade one and two learned about cultural expression. Japanese culture is different from Chinese culture. We tried our best to make a dragon using many colours and glued and cut.

The Monster Nian didn’t like the colours red and yellow. We needed many materials to make the dragons like paint, fabric, bedsheets, and boxes. In China there is a tradition to use red and yellow for happy times. That’s what we used. Because we wanted to express Chinese culture. "

In case you were too far away to be able to see the details of the five dragons, here they are!

Thank you to everyone who came to see our performance!

Have a great weekend :)

Poem Reading and Character Day

For the past few weeks, we have been exploring the world of poetry.

During this language unit, we have been sharpening our skills to visualize while reading by using our five senses.

Here, Pierre is reading a poem he worked hard on writing.

While you listen, close your eyes see if you can paint a picture in your head!

On another note, we had character day this morning to celebrate book week!

Check out all of our costumes filled with enthusiasm and creativity!

Have a great long weekend everyone :)
