Personal Projects and Action

Hello everyone!

We spent a week towards the end of our Who We Are unit to work on personal projects on topics that matter to us.

Each of us chose an inquiry question to guide our research.

We made sure to...
  •  use at least two sources (G5) / three sources (G6) from the unit Padlet
  • make my creation neat, clear, and well organised
  • make my creation informative
  •  included my sources (MLA for Grade 6)
Below, you can see the process of our learning.

We all ended up posing questions related to LGBTQ+ and many of us chose to take action in unique ways.

We even created our own thumbnails for the videos we created as well.

Take a look at these amazing displays!

Group Project on Space and the Solar System

For the past five weeks we have been inquirying into the space and our solar system.

Some of us decided to take action by creating a display about stars and planets to share our new knowledge!

We showed commitment and enthusiasm as we chose to spend many recess periods to work on this project.

Come to the grade 2 classroom to check out the display!

Designing our Learning Space

For the past few weeks, we have been learning about learning!

This week, we decided to work together to design our learning space!

We started off discussing how the furniture in our classroom should be laid out.

We thought about how the classroom layout would affect our learning.

In the picture above, Pierre is drawing a classroom map to share his idea.

We used our social skills and communication skills to make decisions together.

Here, Skye and Minori are discussing that if we have extra desks and chairs,

we could move to a different spot if we get distracted by our classmates so that we can stay in the green zone.

Together, we made an exciting decision that we will no longer have set seats!

From now on, we will each choose a spot where we think we can learn in a safe and focused way!

This means that some of us will work on the floor or couch, while others will choose to sit or stand.

Once we made our plan, we all got to work!

We cooperated to give our classroom a makeover!

If you are around, come and check out our new and improved classroom learning space!

Thanks for reading!

Saving the Environment

For the past six weeks, we have been working on our unit with the central idea:
Our actions affect the earth's resources and people.

As a class, we thought about what we could do with our new understandings and knowledge.

We decided to take action by creating a video about different ways to save the environment.

Sit back and enjoy the show!

Taking Action: Eco Bags

This week we are finishing up our current unit with the central idea,

"People's choices affect the earth's resources and people".

For one week, we all used our research skills to collect data on the number of bags we received at stores.

We were surprised that there were so many!

The bags could be sorted into two categories. Plastic bags and...

...paper bags.

We discussed as a class what actions we can take to help keep our planet healthy.

We decided to design our own eco bags!

Thinking about the design...

So many creative ideas...!

Here are some finished bags!

We were so proud!

The eco bags are on display on the bulletin board on the first floor.

If you haven't seen them yet, come on by and take a look!

Taking Action in the Library

As a part of our inquiry into systems and organisation in communities,

a group of us decided to take ACTION in the library!

Since we realised that the books were not in order, we decided to work together to organise them!

Check out the video to watch us getting to work!

Once the books were sorted, we reflected on what we did.

We were so proud and it felt great to help the school community.
