Investigating Ancient Numbers

In math, we have been looking at the following big idea:

We applied our growing knowledge of the place value of numbers in order to crack the code below!

We found out that before people started using modern numerals, the ancient Egyptians had a unique number system. This system was based on various symbols representing various values such as ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions.

Once we understood the meaning behind these symbols, we created our very own number systems!

Learner Profile Posters

Welcome to Grade 4 everyone!

It was so great to see some new and familiar faces to start off the school year!

During the first week of school, the main focus was on
working together to set up the essential agreements.

After some brainstorming, here is what we came up with.

Afterwards, we discussed connections between our essential agreements and the learner profiles.

We spent some time to work in pairs to come up with specific scenarios to represent each learner profile.

Here is one example of our documentation of a possible scenario!

Once we had our plans in place, we created these wonderful posters starring ourselves!

These posters will be kept on the Grade 4 classroom wall throughout the year as visual reminders.

Come by for a visit to take a look!
